The biggest typhoon in Hong Kong’s history had struck only days before. Trees were snapped in half or simply yanked out of the ground roots and all. If you think that’s the perfect time to prank call police and claim you’ve been injured by a tree, you’ve got company.
According to HK01, police received a report at about 3:52am this morning from a man who claimed he was hurt by a large tree that had fallen over on Tai Hang Drive.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the large fallen tree — a remnant of typhoon Mangkhut’s fury — but no injured man.
After an initial investigation, police traced the call to an apartment unit at Ronsdale Garden in Tai Hang, where they found a 44-year-old man surnamed Cheung.
According to on.cc, Cheung was drunk and confirmed to officers that he had, in fact, not been injured by a falling tree.
Cheung initially refused to cooperate and reportedly scuffled with the cops, even injuring one male officer in the abdomen during the fracas.
HK01 reports that Cheung was eventually subdued, and both her and the officer were sent to Eastern Hospital to have their injuries treated.
Cheung was arrested for assaulting a police officer and wasting everyone’s time.
