A 20-year-old recently reported to the police for being cheated of HK$5,000 by online fraudsters.
The youngster told the police he received an invitation to become a member of a social network. The social network asked him to pay HK$15,000 for admission, after which he will receive two mobile phones in return.
The youngster decided it was a good trade and first transferred HK$5,000 to the specified bank account. When the 20-year-old didn’t hear back, he realised he was cheated, and reported the incident to the police.
Can’t warn you guys enough, don’t believe everything promised to you online. Do your due diligence and research before transferring any of your hard earned money. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is a scam!
