The vice president of international and executive education of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Judy Tsui Lam Sin-lai, was recently terminated from employment for not reporting income derived from duties outside of the university.
Tsui’s employment contract and the university’s guidelines have fixed procedures on issues related to approval and reporting of external income.
Tsui apparently did not report her remuneration as a non-executive director at CLP and China Vanke in the mainland.
Tsui’s duties will be taken over by executive vice president Nicholas Yang Wei-hsiung.
The university claims that the action taken is to ensure good governance and high ethical standards. Tsui however, has disagreed with the findings, criticising the lack of transparency in conducting the investigation and results based on an inaccurate audit report. Tsui also claims to have paid the university a sum of HK$2.84 million.
