A Polytechnic University communications chief Wilfred Lai Ming-fai (45) fell to his death from the university’s tower Friday because he was overworked.
Lai left a note about having no life but work and hoped his suicide would shine light to more awareness of work-life balance. His family also said Lai had complained about the long working hours and being unhappy.
Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims claim 35 sudden deaths in worksplaces over two years, many due to long working hours – Lai’s is the 13th case this year. According to the Association, The Labour Department should be checking whether the university has followed the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance.
