The case of an Indonesian helper who perished in a fire with her elderly employer is now suspected by police to be a case of murder-suicide by arson, after further investigation.
According to Oriental Daily, the Yuen Long District Crime Squad are still investigating the reason for suicide.
The bodies of 35-year-old Indonesian domestic worker Ayumi and her 96-year-old employer, Mrs Chan, were seen through the window of the room they shared in Pat Heung on the morning of Feb. 1 by Chan’s daughter.
Following initial investigations, police stated that they believed Ayumi had tried to protect partially paralysed Chan by trying to push scorching bedsheets away.
At the time, police were quoted as saying suicide was unlikely as they did not find a suicide note, and new reports do not state the reason why Ayumi is now suspected to have committed arson.
