Police suspect Hong Kong toddler may have been violently shaken to death

A two-year-old girl who died this morning, two days after being taken to hospital by her parents, may have been violently shaken to death.

The girl died at Princess Margaret Hospital in Lai Chi Kok at around 8:06am this morning after being transferred from Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po the day before.

The parents took the unconscious girl to the Tai Po hospital on Monday. Initial investigations suggest she suffered internal bleeding.

“We are investigating whether violent shaking caused the bleeding,” the source told the SCMP. “No external injuries were found on the girl.”

The 30-year-old mother of the child is said to be a Hong Kong resident, while the 33-year-old father is a visitor from mainland China.

Police are treating the case as “cruelty to child” and are investigating.
