Police reclassify fatal Tin Shui Wai fire as murder, arson and suicide

The day before yesterday, the Hong Kong police reclassified a “fire and dead body found case” as a suspected case of murder, arson and suicide. The fatal fire had resulted in two deaths in Tin Shui Wai.

At around 10:46am on Feb. 6, a 44-year-old woman called the police and reported a dispute between her 46-year-old sister and her sister’s 52-year-old Canadian-Chinese boyfriend at a private flat at Kingswood Villas on Tin Lung Road.

According to the SCMP, when the police and the woman arrived at the scene, the unit was already on fire and about 40 firemen were needed to put out the flames, which lasted for 20 minutes. Police later found the charred remains of the caller’s sister and her sister’s boyfriend inside the flat.

Further investigations led the police to believe that the 52-year-old man set fire to the unit using inflammable liquid in a murder-suicide case.
