Police have reclassified a wounding with intent case in Wan Chai last year as murder.

The force said in a statement on Thursday that it received a report that a 37-year-old foreign woman was found collapsed in a unit at 82 Stone Nullah Lane at around 9:30pm on Dec. 23, 2021.

The incident took place a day before.

“Police officers sped to the scene and found the foreign woman sustaining face injuries,” it added.

The police said she was rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital in an unconscious state.

After initial investigations, they arrested a 42-year-old foreign man on the same day.

The woman was certified dead at 7am on Jan. 2, 2022.

The police said that upon further investigation, they reclassified the case as murder.

It will be mentioned in the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts in the morning of Oct. 18.

HK01 quoted sources as saying that both the suspect and victim are Filipino domestic workers.

They met and started dating in September last year. They began living together in November in a rented apartment in Wan Chai as they were waiting for new contracts, it added.

The Chinese-language online portal said a person told the woman’s neighbor that she fell in the bathroom of the apartment. The neighbor reported the incident to the police after finding injuries on the victim’s face.

The online portal also said that someone admitted to the police that he assaulted the deceased in the unit while he was intoxicated.
