A 24 year old man has been arrested in connection with the burglary of HSBC Asia-Pacific chief executive Peter Wong Tung-shun’s luxury residence on the Peak on Sunday evening.
Police arrested the man – who faces charges of illegal immigration and burglary – as he was being treated for arm injuries at Sha Tin Hospital on Monday. He is suspected of being one of a four-strong group that raided Wong’s Middle Gap Road property before making off with an estimated HKD2.45 million worth of watches and jewellery.
A source told the SCMP that the suspect and three accomplices arrived in Hong Kong on Sunday, the same day that they broke into Wong’s home. The group are said to be from Guizhou province, also home to the gang that abducted Bossini heiress Queenie Rosita Law in April.
Wong said on Tuesday morning that he was not home when the break-in occurred. “A call was made from my home telling me that something had happened. So I immediately returned and then the police arrived,” he told the SCMP. Land Registry records show that the residence was purchased by HSBC for HKD561 million in 2013.
Police are still on the hunt for the remaining three suspects in the case, and have yet to disclose whether any of the stolen items have been recovered.
