A 25-year-old man suspected of kidnapping and molesting a 6-year-old girl in Tseung Kwan O yesterday has turned himself into police.
According to Apple Daily, a man approached the child as she was playing at a park in the Metro City housing estate with her brother and a domestic helper at about 5pm yesterday. The man allegedly led her to a male public toilet in a shopping mall nearby, saying he had a game to play with her.
The pair returned to the park later but the man fled the scene when the helper noticed that the little girl was in a panic. Her family reported the suspected molestation to police afterwards.
After checking surveillance videos of the housing estate and the shopping mall, police released a statement about the wanted alleged child molester later that night, calling for information about the incident. In the statement, they said they were searching for a 1.7-meter-tall man in his 20s, with dark, short hair, who was wearing a white top, dark shorts and flip-flops.
A man, surnamed Lee, was subsequently arrested at about 8pm when he turned himself in to Tseung Kwan O police. He was later identified as a university student studying in Taiwan who had recently returned to Hong Kong for summer vacation and was living with his family in the neighborhood, Headline Daily reports.
