A 36-year-old man is in critical condition after a gang of at least 10 men armed with knives and hammers attacked three vehicles in Wan Chai in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to Apple Daily, the gang set upon a small private car, a seven-seater car, and a van which were stationary on Gloucester Road, in an attack that reportedly lasted around 25 seconds.

Video published by the outlet, shows several men swarming the van and smashing its windows with weapons. Members of group can be also seen in footage near the smaller private car.

Only one man was reportedly injured, though it wasn’t specified which vehicle he was in.

The victim, surnamed Che, sustained injuries to the head and arms and was driven to Queen Elizabeth hospital in Mong Kok by a taxi driver. His condition is believed to be critical, Apple Daily reported.

According to Apple Daily, the three vehicles were driving toward a junction between Gloucester Road and Marsh Road prior to being set upon at about 2am.

When police arrived at the scene on Gloucester Road, the small private car was gone, but the seven-seater car and van remained.

The drivers of both vehicles — a 32-year-old man surnamed Wong and a 34-year-old man surnamed Ng — were arrested. Neither man was injured.

Police also found a 140 meter trail of blood (140 meters!) from Gloucester Road to Lockhart Road, which is where Che hailed the taxi.

Officers reportedly are still waiting to obtain an oral statement from Che and are investigating the reason behind the attack.

The case has been handed over to the Hong Kong Island Regional Anti-triad unit.

**Correction: a previous version of this story wrongly stated the attack occurred early Monday morning. The incident, in fact, happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Coconuts apologises for any confusion caused.
