Police have been authorised to interrogate a 27-year-old man, three months after he allegedly bludgeoned his ex-girlfriend to death with an electric drill on a Tuen Mun construction site.
The man, who worked as a security guard on the construction site, was charged with the murder of 25-year-old Andrea Bayr on March 30. On June 17, doctors at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre deemed him fit for police interrogation, Apple Daily reports.
The 27-year-old appeared in Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Court on Monday for the mention of the case, the hearing for which has been adjourned until August 22 pending DNA, toxicology, and autopsy reports.
The suspect, who is of Pakistani origin, will remain in custody at Siu Lam.
He was arrested in the early hours of March 29, after allegedly hitting Bayr on the head with an electric drill when she tried to end their relationship.
A friend of the pair, who was also at the Tin Hau Road construction site, notified the police at 2:16am.
The Austrian-Filipino mother of three was rushed to hospital, but could not be saved, and was declared dead at 3:10am.
At the time, local media reported that police were investigating whether Bayr or her ex-boyfriend were under the influence of narcotics, as a small amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine was found on the scene.
