Armed with knives, a group of men held up jewelry store staff and made away with US$740,000 about 10:30am this morning in Hung Hom, sparking a manhunt by police.

Two south Asian men confronted the four victims on Hok Yuen Street East near the intersection with Hung Hom Road, reported Apple Daily.

Workers from a jewelry store, the four were carrying the US dollars — equivalent to about HK$5.5 million — in two backpacks when they were approached by the thieves, which the outlet described as of south Asian appearance.

Two of the jewelry store staff — who were reportedly on their way to deposit the money — were injured during the heist and later taken to hospital for treatment. Footage from the scene, published by on.cc. shows the sidewalk stained with blood.

Apple Daily, meanwhile, published footage taken by a bystander showing the two of thieves running away from the scene, clutching the backpacks.

The bandits then entered a getaway vehicle and fled. Police say they are looking for four south Asian men who are believed to be part of a gang.

According to RTHK, police have set up roadblocks in various areas of Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and the New Territories to find the car. The measure led to some to traffic jams in a number of locations this morning.
