Police hunt for suspect who tried to rob and strangle taxi driver in Yuen Long

Police are looking for a suspect who attempted to rob his taxi driver, whom he had also strangled and sprayed with an unidentified liquid.

At approximately 4am today, the man hailed a taxi from Tsuen Wan towards Tung Tau Industrial Area in Yuen Long, Sing Tao Daily reports. When the car approached the junction of Wang Yip Street West and Leung Yip Street, the passenger allegedly attempted to strangle the cabbie with his seatbelt, and said he was going to rob him.

He then seized the driver’s money box and tried to spray his eyes with an unidentified liquid, but the cabbie managed to dodge the spray, and fought the robber off.

After the robber fled, the cabbie reported the attempted theft to the police, but they were not able to find anyone matching the suspect’s description in the vicinity. Officers from the Yuen Long District Crime Squad are currently investigating the case.
