Police Commissioner says officers are allowed to sign Anti-Occupy petition

Andy Tsang, the Commissioner of Police, said that police officers who sign the petition opposing Occupy Central are not breaching any regulations.

“The Force will ensure that the officers will continue to be politically neutral when they discharge their duties,” said Tsang. “Just like other members of the public, police officers do have the same civil and political rights. So […] they are entitled to express their personal opinions, including in support of certain activities.”

Tsang specified that “in this case”, the police would be “signing up to express that they are against certain illegal acts”, so “the Force is keeping an open mind on this matter”.

We wonder how open their minds would be if police officers were signing a petition for “certain illegal acts”…
