Three people from mainland China with alleged ties to a Guangxi burglary syndicate were arrested in the early hours today after police raided their hotel room, seizing over HKD100,000 in cash and valuables.

Police raided a hotel room in Tin Shui Wai at around 6am today and arrested its three occupants — a 27-year-old woman and her 42-year-old boyfriend, both surnamed Tian, and a 29-year-old man surnamed Wei — on suspicion of burglary.

The 29-year-old and 42-year-old, who are from Guangxi and Heilongjiang respectively, crossed the border illegally, according to Apple Daily. The 27-year-old, from Ningxia, entered Hong Kong using a two-way permit.

Officers seized over HKD100,000 in cash, a small amount of foreign currency, and several valuables like jewellery, handbags, and luxury watches from the hotel room.

Chief inspector Chan Yan from the New Territories North Regional Crime Unit told reporters that the trio had been in Hong Kong for over two weeks, and are suspected to have carried out multiple burglaries within Tin Shui Wai. Police are currently investigating whether the group has links to similar cases in other districts.

As one of the suspects is surnamed Wei, police said they had not ruled out the possibility that the trio is connected to the Wei family burglary syndicate in Guangxi. Investigating officers are working to determine whether any of their affiliates are still at large in Hong Kong.
