Police arrested an Indonesian woman this morning for abandoning a human fetus in a public toilet in an indoor wet market earlier this month.
The 33-year-old was arrested in an apartment unit in Tseung Kwan O, and was working as a domestic helper, on.cc reports.
Ming Pao reports that the woman was arrested on suspicion of concealing the birth of a child.
The grim discovery was made on Nov. 6 after plumbers were called to unblock a toilet in the women’s bathroom in the Java Road Municipal Buildings in North Point.
Cleaners at the indoor market also found blood stains on the toilet floor.
Police later confirmed that the dead fetus was a boy.
According to Hong Kong law, any person who in any manner disposes of the dead body of a child with intent to conceal the fact of its birth, whether the child died before, during, or after birth, and is liable on conviction to imprisonment of up to two years.
