Polar more-tex: Hong Kong may have another cold spell next month

Apparently Jack Frost just isn’t done with us, as after the frankly fff-freezing weather last month (which, in case nobody has told you, saw the lowest temperatures in 59 years), Hong Kong could be due for yet another cold spell.

Taiwan-based Facebook page Weather on Ground has predicted that mid-March will see a “super cold front”, which honestly is not as catchy as “polar vortex”.

The prediction is reportedly based on a band of extremely cold air, which has apparently been gathering over southern Siberia, western Mongolia and northern Xinjiang.

The weather service cited models from the US National Centre for Environmental Prediction Global Forecasting System, which show hotspots (or cold spots) in these areas, which are already between 12 to 24 degrees below average.

According to computer models from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, negative Arctic oscillation during the first half of March could result in cold Arctic air travelling southward from the North Pole.
