Plane made emergency stop en route to Hong Kong before 4-month-old passenger’s death

Further details have emerged about the death of a four-month-old infant on a flight from London to Hong Kong.

Apple Daily reports that the infant was travelling on Cathay Pacific flight CX256 from London to Hong Kong with her mother when she fell unconscious.

One of the passengers, who is apparently a nurse, attempted to provide assistance. The plane reportedly made an emergency landing at Almaty Airport in Kazakhstan for emergency medical assistance, causing the flight to be delayed by three and a half hours.

Unfortunately, when the plane landed in Hong Kong at 6:39pm, paramedics on the scene confirmed that the child had died. Initial police investigations suggest no suspicious circumstances, but the cause of death has yet to be determined, pending autopsy results.

It is reported that the infant’s mother is mainland Chinese, and her father is French. The mother and daughter were apparently travelling to China to visit family in Changsha.

A spokesperson for Cathay Pacific told Apple Daily that all cabin crew members are required to go through first aid training during induction, and attend annual refresher courses.

On top of first aid kits and medical supplies, cabin crew are also given access to a 24-hour remote medical diagnosis service to obtain professional medical advice round the clock.
