P.L.A. HQ stands out as only lit-up building in Hong Kong skyline during Earth Hour

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) celebrated its 10th annual Earth Hour between 8:30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday, which saw millions of people across the globe switching their lights off to conserve energy. According to WWF, homes, offices and iconic landmarks in some 178 countries and territories participated in the event.

HKFP reports that, prior to the event, CY Leung announced a plan for all government buildings to switch off all outdoor lights after 11pm every day.

In addition, even the Hong Kong Tourism Board suspended its much-fêted (and, in our opinion, pretty overrated) daily Symphony of Lights for the day.

However, in what could either be interpreted as a show of obstinance or perhaps just ignorance, the People’s Liberation Army Forces Building in Admiralty stuck out like a sore thumb as its lights continued to shine throughout the entire hour… which sounds like an #awkwardmoment if we’ve ever heard one.

On our personal and very scientific scale of awkwardness, we’d place that somewhere between accidentally calling a teacher “Dad”, and automatically replying “you too” after being wished a happy birthday.
