In just three days, Hong Kong Customs have made two massive seizures of cocaine from passengers arriving from São Paolo, Brazil at the Hong Kong International Airport.
On Saturday, a passenger was caught trying to smuggle HKD7.48 million worth of cocaine in his backpack. But yesterday, the drug smugglers of Brazil truly outdid themselves: customs officials found HKD10 million worth of cocaine hidden in the luggage of a 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman.
Perhaps the drug lordlings decided that it would be a two-person job when they realized that one person could not even lift that much cocaine by him or herself.
The drugs were not very well concealed… but to be fair, there’s probably no easy way to hide that amount of drugs. Inside the woman’s luggage there were 12 tins of canned pineapple and other types of fruit, and inside the tins was a shitload of cocaine. It was all discovered “subsequent to in-depth inspection” on the customs officials’ part, of course.
Just in time for the holiday season: a pineapple fruitcake no one would regift!
The pair will be jointly charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug, and are appearing at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates’ Courts today. The offence can be punished by life in prison and a fine of HKD5 million.
