PICTURES: Local teenager’s drawing becomes the first-ever Google Doodle designed by a Hongkonger

Google held a “Doodle 4 Google” competition for Hong Kong schoolchildren, where they could submit their own doodle surrounding the theme of “If I were a green hero”. The overall winner, Chiu Yung Wong, from Pok Oi Hospital Tang Pui King Memorial College, drew a beautiful piece showcasing how water is essential for nature, and ourselves, to flourish. For her submission, she wrote: “If I were a green hero, I would create a green living. Water is Earth’s precious resources, while continues of our lives to nourish all things for us to live in green.”

The competition had five different categories that allowed kids of kindergarten to secondary school age to submit their drawings. Google selected the best 20 doodles from each group, and the public was invited to vote for the best ones from each group. All group winners got a Nexus 7 tablet among other goodies, like an annual pass to Ocean Park. The overall winner however, was selected by a panel of guest judges and Google employees and it is displayed on Google’s frontpage worldwide for today. Wong won an eco-tourism trip to Singapore for three as well as a dolphin encounter at Ocean Park in addition to other prizes. Her school also received three Nexus 7 tablets. Check out the doodle for yourself at Google.
