Photographer offers HKD50,000 reward for backpack stolen during street nap

A flyer in Lan Kwai Fong has truly reminded us here at Coconuts HQ that Schadenfreude (pleasure at someone else’s misfortune) is a real and powerful thing. The flyer was posted by HK-based photographer James Goldman, who is offering HKD50,000 for the safe return of his Samsonite backpack.

“But why was it posted in Lan Kwai Fong?”, you may ask. You see, dear Coconauts, James apparently lost his backpack and its precious cargo while having a snooze… outside FLY. Yes, the club. In Lan Kwai Fong. Yes, the notorious clubbing district.

Supposedly, the contents of the backpack included six hard drives, a Macbook Pro, Goldman’s HKSAR passport, HKID, bank cards, credit card aaaand a wallet. James, buddy, when this has all blown over and you’re feeling a little better, we’d love to take a masterclass from you on how to end a list anticlimactically.

All jokes aside, here is the flyer in all of its glory for any Coconauts out there who are itching to become small scale vigilantes, or whatever:

To James, if you’re reading this: we hope you find your backpack, although if we’re honest, we don’t know what kind of naive optimism you have to take alfresco naps in LKF with such valuable items and expect the thief to just like… give it back because you asked nicely. That’s some Buddy the Elf level of trusting right there.
