A fraudster called an old lady on the phone pretending to be mainland police and cheated her out of HK$300,000 by telling her that she has committed crimes in the mainland and that she will go to jail unless she pays up.
The old lady transferred HK$300,000 into a mainland account, and was asked for another HK$300,000 after the man realised that she has fallen for the hoax.
Yesterday morning, when she went to a bank to transfer more money to the fraudster at a Sheung Shui bank, the bank staff got wise and alerted the police.
