Pharmacy owner gets three months jail time for selling counterfeit drugs

A Tsim Sha Tsui pharmacy owner has been sentenced to three months in jail, suspended sentence of three years and a fine of HK$50,000 for selling counterfeit pharmaceutical drugs.

The pharmacy was located on the ground floor of Peninsula Plaza and was found to be selling counterfeit Pien Tze Huang pills, Tong Ren Tang’s Angong Niuhuang Wan pills, Bull Head Brand’s capsules for Rheumatism and Osteoporosis, and Bull Head Brand’s capsules for muscle pain, reports the RTHK.

According to the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person selling goods bearing forged trademark, if convicted, is liable to five years in jail and a maximum fine of HK$500,000.

Anyone who comes across any suspected counterfeiting activities is encouraged to report to Customs by calling the 24-hour hotline 2545 6182.
