Pet shop owners sell pets in the name of “adoption”

With animal groups like the SPCA encouraging Hong Kong people to adopt abandoned animals, some pet shop owners are taking advantage of people’s kindness to turn a buck.

Offering adoption fees for purebred cats between HKD$2,000 to HKD$6,800, these pet shops also push expensive animal products onto customers and cite the costs of maintenance for their exorbitant fees.

According to the Fisheries Department, these pet stores have no adoption licenses and are employing unsavoury business practices — so pet lovers watch out!
