Peak Tram fares to increase by 16 percent in March

In Hong Kong it feels like the price of everything is going up: Ocean Park tickets, Disneyland tickets, now tickets for the Peak Tram, which are set to increase next month.

You could say, it’s getting a little steep (no? alright, apologies).

According to hk01, the company that runs the tram, Peak Tramways, said the price hike is because of an increase in operating expenses such as maintaining the Peak Tram system, track foundation and slopes, and staff salaries.

The company is also investing in a new ticketing system and a full upgrade of the tram system and facilities, and details of the upgrade will be announced in the coming year.

Starting from March 1, ticket prices will be as follows:

Adult return = HK$52 up from HK$45 (US$6.60 up from US$5.80)
Adult one way = HK$37 up from HK$32 (US$4.70 up from US$4.10)
Adult monthly = HK$620 up from HK$540 (US$79 up from US$69)

Child (age 3-11) and senior citizens (age 65 and over) return = HK$23 up from HK$20 (US$2.90 up from US$2.60)
Child (age 3-11) and senior citizens (age 65 and over) one way = HK$14 up from HK$12 (US$1.80 up from US$1.50)
Child (age 3-11) and senior citizens (age 65 and over) monthly = HK$310 up from HK$270 (US$40 up from US$35)

According to newspaper Wen Wei Po, Peak Tramways will also be launching “Hong Kong Sky Tour,” a free interactive audio guide at Sky Terrace 428. It will offer information on the city’s architecture, scenery, culture and history in six languages.
