Parents claim Mandarin-speaking man tried to kidnap 2 children from Yuen Long kindergarten

Police officers are investigating claims that a Mandarin-speaking man tried to kidnap two children from a local kindergarten.

The claims first came to light after Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council Yuen Long Day Nursery (yes, that’s what it’s called) on Mau Tan Street posted a notice on their entrance yesterday, which read:

“This morning, we were informed that there were two separate incidents of a Putonghua-speaking man approaching children on Yuen Long streets, claiming to be their father and trying to drag them away from their helper/grandmother. In light of this, we would like to remind parents to stay vigilant and keep their children safe.”

After a photo of the notice was shared widely online, police officers got in touch with the kindergarten and launched an investigation, a source told the SCMP. Until that point, no police reports had been made.

Anyone with information is urged to contact investigating officers from the Yuen Long District Crime Squad by calling 3661 4710.
