Parallel trade bosses recruiting Hongkongers to do their dirty work since visa restrictions

The top dogs in the parallel trading game are already changing their tactics since this week’s announcement that Hong Kong will restrict entry for mainlanders.

Even before it became official that multiple entry visas to Hong Kong will no longer be readily available to those from mainland China, dozens of adverts went up online calling for manpower from our side of the border.

According to The Standard, one fellow going by the name of Kit Wong has started recruiting Hongkongers via a Facebook group, offering an average of HKD600 a day to those who will take goods over the border into Shenzhen.

Shock-horror! Surely no holier-than-thou Hongkongers would be involved in such a dastardly act?!

While most respondents replied with their telephone numbers so Wong could conduct his shady deals by Whatsapp, one commenter wrote, “Wish your goods will be confiscated and you guys all sent to jail.”

He’s probably not getting the job.

According to the Standard, up until now, parallel traders have been able to make HKD10,000 a month smuggling daily necessities and as much as HKD30,000 a month carrying iPhones across the border.

Just don’t sell yourselves short, Hong Kong. Walking through a check point with bulging underpants takes real skill.
