For a brief moment at Lai Chi Kok station on Monday, there was no “please mind the gap” or “when traveling along the escalators, please take care.”
There was only Glory to Hong Kong.
A savvy MTR worker reportedly hacked the PA system at Lai Chi Kok station, causing the speakers to play a cover of the city’s well-known protest song.
In a video shared to Facebook, commuters waiting for their trains to arrive appear startled when the song plays.
The tune is interrupted, and the video ends, when a train pulls up to the platform and the PA dings to announce its arrival.
The clip was shared to Reddit, where it was upvoted almost 8,000 times.
“So I guess the protest has now literally gone underground?” One Reddit user joked.
On Facebook, some netizens went full conspiracy mode, pointing out that Lai Chi Kok station is where injured commuters and protesters at Prince Edward were brought to via a special train on August 31 before being taken to hospital.

Authorities have repeatedly denied rumors that there were any fatalities at Prince Edward that night.
This appears to be the second time in days that the PA system at Lai Chi Kok station was hacked to croon Glory to Hong Kong.
Last Friday, a Reddit thread also shared a video filmed on the concourse of the station with the protest anthem playing overhead.
