Out of the box: Hong Kong’s latest endurance challenge is not just a walk in the park

It’s all well and good doing random Hong Kong endurance challenges – there’s enough of them, after all – but the real question is: can you do it with a massive box on your back?

For the first time ever in Hong Kong, property investment company IP Global and ShelterBox, a charity providing survival necessities to those overwhelmed by natural and humanitarian disasters, have teamed up to bring us the epic IP Global TriChallenge 2014 – a 10- kilometre race over land, sea and air…with a gigantic piece of plastic strapped to your shoulders.

Starting at 8:30am on Nov. 22, teams of four will race across Sai Kung Country Park while partaking in a series of challenges designed to simulate the sort of difficulties faced by ShelterBox teams as they traverse the world to get supplies to those who need them most.

Martin Roeth, CEO of ShelterBox Hong Kong, says the “IP Global TriChallenge 2014 is an innovative concept that we believe will provide Hong Kong with a new endurance challenge, whilst raising much needed funds for the communities we support”.

Although it’s not for everyone, there is a certain thrill attached to testing the body’s limits through speed, stamina and strength. If you can convince three friends to feel the same, register before Oct. 15 and commit to raising HKD20,000 between you in sponsorship. Easy!

With the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the Syrian crisis among their recent benefactors, ShelterBox is sure to put the money to good use.

Will you, and can you, rise to the TriChallenge?
