Opportunistic Hongkonger ridiculed for peddling hotel slippers on Facebook

One thrifty peddler has been subject to online ridicule after his post advertising hotel slippers caught the eye of Hong Kong netizens.

The opportunistic merchant (with an unsurprisingly spartan Facebook profile) posted a listing for the Renaissance hotel slippers on the Expat Hong Kong group yesterday afternoon, complete with a breakdown of the cost for one, two or three pairs.

The listing quickly became a source of mirth for group members, many of whom expressed their disbelief that somebody would not only steal hotel slippers, but re-sell them.

Others theorised that resourceful ol’ Ming Ming had access to the slippers through his occupation, which would certainly make more sense than the patron of a luxury hotel trying to recoup accommodation costs ten bucks at a time…

One commenter joked that she had no use for slippers, but asked if Ming had “shower caps or disposable toothbrushes”, adding “how about hand soap?”

Another wondered what people would start shilling next, sarcastically quipping “used condoms?”

The post appears to have since been removed; although whether that was due to merciless teasing or bargain-hunting, icy-footed Hongkongers is not clear.
