A baby died after being born prematurely on a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to New York, despite a flight diversion to Tokyo for a medical emergency.
The woman was in the later stages of her pregnancy and although she was medically cleared to fly, she went into labour hours after the Boeing 777-300 took off. The baby was delivered by cabin crew and most passengers were unaware of the drama as the cabin crew took the woman to a screened off area of the plane when she went into labour.
The passengers were put up in a Tokyo hotel with meal vouchers as they had to stay overnight in Tokyo for security reasons. No updates were given regarding the woman’s health and nationality for privacy reasons.
