Oh Hail No! Tai Po sees hail as temperature drops 10 degrees within 10 minutes (VIDEO)

Residents of Tai Po were treated to a patch of hail-la weird weather on Saturday when solid balls of ice began falling out of the sky, while temperatures suddenly dropped 10 degrees over a 10-minute period (how neat).

A thunderstorm warning was issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 12:40pm. The storm brought 100-kilometre-per-hour winds which blew through the district, while people reported seeing (and feeling) sizeable hailstones falling from the sky at around 1pm.

Witnesses said the hailstones had diameters of around one centimetre when they began falling, and became finer over the next 10 minutes, HK01 reports.

In that period, the temperature plunged swiftly from 33 degrees Celsius to 23 degrees Celsius. According to the Observatory, it was the first time they received reports of hail in July since 2008.
