An official with the Food & Hygiene Department is in a coma and in critical condition after being pushed to the ground by a hawker on Des Voeux Road Central on Sunday afternoon.
The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department officer was attempting to arrest an illegal hat seller when the suspect pushed him to the ground, causing a serious head injury, reports Apple Daily.
Security camera footage captured the incident.
The official, 58, was only a year away from retirement.
He had to undergo an operation and be resuscitated at hospital, reports EJ Insight.
The suspect, who has not been found, is said to be South Asian, between 35 and 40 years old, about 1.8 metres tall, and bearded.
Secretary for Food and Health, Ko Wing-man, said today that he is “very concerned about [the victim’s] situation”.
