Forgot to bring your wallet? Want a better way to give pocket money to your kids? Or never got round to paying that friend back your share for dinner last week? There will soon be a very convenient app for that.
The latest big idea from Octopus cards — a person to person cash-transfer app that lets users transfer up to HK$1,000 per day to friends or relatives — will launch in the second quarter of this year.
The new app requires users to first register their card with the company using their smartphones, so transactions with other registered users can be completed online and payments take from, or added to, the balance on the card. According to Sammy Kam, technical director at Octopus, it will be just like “Whatsapp-ing” messages or photos, except its money. Pretty cool idea, eh?
