Obstetrician who delivered celebrity’s baby convicted of professional misconduct

Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The Medical Council yesterday convicted private obstetrician, Christine Choy Ming-yan of professional misconduct and had her name removed from the medical register for two years.

Choy was found guilty of four of seven charges of professional misconduct for the delivery of the newborn son of celebrity Peter Cheung Shung-tak and wife Eugina Lau. The Medical Council found Choy should not have induced labour without Lau’s consent and informing her of risks – the procedure should not have been done in the clinic without a paediatrician on hand and Choy did not do enough to help the baby breathe reports the RTHK.

The celebrity couple’s newborn was born unresponsive at St. Teresa’s Hospital and died the following day at a neo-natal care unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
