T1 is on the table.
The Observatory announced today it’s considering issuing the Standby Signal No. 1 tomorrow after a low pressure area of the Luzon Strait strengthened into a tropical depression.
The storm system is expected to move west over the strait slowly today and affect the northern part of the South China Sea tomorrow, the weather service announced on its website this afternoon.
“At 4 p.m., the tropical depression over the Luzon Strait was centred about 160 kilometres southeast of Gaoxiong,”” it wrote.
“It is expected to move across the vicinity of the Luzon Strait slowly at first, and move west at about 12 kilometres per hour entering the northern part of the South China Sea later.”
Tonight will be cloudy with a few rain patches, while tomorrow should be mostly fine but hazy with temperatures ranging between 25 and 32 degrees celsius.
As the week progresses, it’s expected to get windy with a few squally showers.

“The tropical cyclone over the Luzon Strait will move across the northern part of the South China Sea in the next couple of days, bringing unsettled weather to the coastal areas of Guangdong,” the observatory predicts.
“An anticyclone aloft will bring fine weather to southeastern China on Friday. Besides, Typhoon Mangkhut near Guam will move westwards in the next few days across the western North Pacific, and intensify further. It will affect the south China coast over the weekend and pose threat to the region.”
