Whether it’s the shortage of nurses in Hong Kong or the relatively low admission requirement, nursing programmes have become a popular choice among Hong Kong students.
Local universities reveal that they’re seeing more candidates competing for nursing programmes this year. In the previous year, eight people were competing for a nursing programme placement, this year, 12 people are competing for a placement.
Experts say the trend is not due to students’ increased interest in the nursing profession, but because of the more lenient requirements. Also, students believe that nurses are professionals and a career as a nurse will offer them a stable income.
