Nothing we can do, it’s a total (lunar) eclipse (of the heart) tonight

Total lunar eclipse.
Total lunar eclipse.

For those of you who missed the memo, here’s a final reminder, tonight a total lunar eclipse will be visible in Hong Kong.

Weather permitting — the Hong Kong Observatory forecasted that it will be cloudy today — the eclipse will be visible from most places in Hong Kong with an unobstructed view to the east.

The eclipse will begin at 6:50pm, reach its totality at 9:30pm, and end at 0:10am early tomorrow morning.

A lunar eclipse is when the Earth’s shadow blocks the sun’s light and completely covers the moon.

With the next total lunar eclipse after January expected to take place on July 28, you definitely don’t want to miss this one.

For those of you who don’t know where to watch the eclipse, Victoria Harbour, the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal Park, and promenades in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hung Hom, Central, Quarry Bay and Tai Po have been flagged as good locations.

Do, however, remember to wrap up in something warm as it is going to be a chilly night with temperatures ranging from nine to 11 degrees celsius.

For those of you who want to stay indoors, the Hong Kong Space Museum and a few local astronomy organisations will set up some telescopes at the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section), Kowloon Park Piazza, and Sha Tin Park Main Plaza for their event Night of Total Lunar Eclipse.
