No Shortcuts: Volunteers for spot check for cheating on this year’s Oxfam Trailwalker

The organisers of the Oxfam Trailwalker charity race have announced that volunteers will be deployed along the route this year to catch out anyone looking to take a sneaky shortcut. The move comes after controversy surrounding last year’s race, with first runners up, Team Nepal, claiming winners Team Columbia S1 cheated.

Although the accusation was dismissed due to a lack of evidence, organisers announced at a meeting for participants that volunteers will be conducting spot checks along possible detours of the route for the first time, with anyone found taking shortcuts immediately disqualified. The 100 kilometre race, formerly a training exercise for Gurkha soldiers, will be held across the MacLehose Trail (and others) over a 48-hour period between Nov. 14th and 16th this year.
