Wow, Hong Kong’s Immigration officials have had a busy week! The department announced yesterday that they have arrested 32 illegal workers, one visa overstayer and four employers between Monday and Wednesday this week. That’s quite a haul guys!
The arrests were made following raids at 18 locations, including two units under renovation, a laundry, a packing factory and several restaurants.
Three female Hong Kong ID card-holders were taken into custody, as well as five men and one woman holding recognisance forms, which prohibit employment in the territory. Two women and two men, ranging in age between 28 and 50, were also arrested for employing the illegals.
In addition, three mainlanders were arrested at raids in Ka Fu Close, Sheung Shui, for parallel trading of goods including shampoo, medicine, healthcare products and, of course, baby powder.
Six more illegal workers were found later after raids at a further 12 locations, including markets, garbage collection points and newspaper stalls.
