No mainland poultry for another four months

The originally 21-day ban on mainland poultry was supposed to end today but on Jan. 27, after another batch of mainland chicken from Shenzhen were tested positive with H7N9 bird flu, the culling of 20,000 chickens and further closure of markets have been initiated.

Wholsalers at the Cheung Sha Wan market were not happy with the government’s decision to extend the ban, protesting today at the market, calling the government “useless”.

For now, Hongkongers can still enjoy day-old chicks and chilled or frozen poultry products.
