No Halloween Fest at Ocean Park this year, but expect yoga in the aquarium, camping and more

With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, Ocean Park management says it isn’t clear when the attraction will reopen. But when it does, it’ll be with a host of new activities from yoga in the aquarium to camping under the stars.

“Even if guests can’t go out [and travel], that’s okay, [they] can come to Ocean Park for a completely brand new experience,” Timothy Ng, an executive director at the park, said in an RTHK segment Friday.

Ng said visitors to the park can look forward to nature activities, like guided hiking tours along the verdant trails that the cable cars zip over. The park will also introduce staycations, allowing park goers to spend the night at Ocean Park and camp under the stars.

Visitors can also take part in yoga outdoors and indoors—in the very aquariums that the park is named for.

“The whole experience will be very different from before,” Ng said.

He added that the Halloween Fest, which normally begins in mid-September, will be canceled this year owing to the coronavirus. This marks the first time in 20 years that the annual attraction will not be held.

To entice visitors to the park, there will also be ticket offers including $498 for an unlimited pass valid from October 1 to March 31.

Ocean Park reopened in June as the coronavirus eased, but shut again in July when the third COVID-19 wave hit Hong Kong.

The park was given a new lease on life in May when lawmakers approved a HK$5.4 billion (US$697 million) cash injection for the cash-strapped attraction. Ocean Park has seen falling visitor numbers in the past decade, and was hit especially hard by the fall in tourists last year due to the anti-government protests.
