No ‘apology’, only ‘sorrow’ in Manila hostage apology statement

The Philippines has refused to use the word “apology” in its apology statement to those involved in the 2010 Manila hostage incident.

Manila has opted to use the word “sorrow” which families of the victims and survivors found unacceptable.

The victims and survivors have four demands: compensation, punishment for officials responsible, proper apology, and improved tourist safety measures.

Even though it seems as though discussions have been going well with the Philippines, Leung Chun-ying did stress on Saturday and Tuesday that sanctions will be imposed if demands are not met reports the SCMP.
