Nineteen injured after bus rams into truck on the North Lantau Highway

The crash happened at about 5am when a bus traveling from the airport to Tseun Wan with more than 20 passengers rammed into the back of a truck near Sunny Bay, according to RTHK.

RTHK reported that firemen had to rescue two passengers from the bus who were trapped on the vehicle’s upper level, including one who was unconscious.

Photos online show serious damage to the front of the bus — the N31 run by Long Win Bus Co. — which had its upper and lower deck windshields smashed.

A passenger who spoke to TVB said the bus was driving at normal speed when the crash occurred.

“The cars suddenly collided. There was broken glass, and passengers at the back were injured, but those sitting at the front on the top deck were more seriously hurt,” they said.

“We went upstairs to check if the people upstairs were OK, but below was not clear. The bus was driving at a normal speed. But I heard other passengers say the driver did not know if there was a problem and did not open the door.”

The injured were sent to Princess Margaret and Yan Chai hospitals for treatment.
