New Zealand soft drinks contaminated with glass shards imported into Hong Kong

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has urged the public to avoid five different kinds of soft drink from New Zealand brand Phoenix, two of which have been imported and sold in Hong Kong.

New Zealand authorities told the CFS that certain batches of Phoenix’s Cola, Lemonade, Light Cola, Orange Fizz and Raspberry Fizz may contain “small glass particles”.

Nothing like having some glass shards in your throat with your cool lemonade on a hot summer’s day!

The five affected batches have expiry dates from April 13 to July 7, 2016.

The CFS has confirmed that two of the affected products have been imported to and sold in Hong Kong: Phoenix Lemonade (expiring May 11, 2016) and Phoenix Light Cola (expiring April 13, April 20, and June 6, 2016).

Thankfully, the stores in question had already taken the products of the shelves and conducted a recall.

An earlier investigation by CFS staff did not find any products being sold at major outlets.

The authorities said they have not received any relevant complaints in the last month.
