With only one-quarter of Hong Kongers happy about Leung’s latest policy address, we think that this will be quite a popular item — rolls of toilet paper bearing the face of Chief Executive Leung Chung-ying. Designed by the Democratic Party, they will be sold at this year’s Lunar New Year fair.
According to the head of the party’s creative media division, toilet paper is an everyday necessity and the party wants to bring politics into the household. The product was, surprisingly, designed at a mainland factory which was not too happy about its politically sensitive message.
The toilet rolls will come in packs of four and priced at HK$68.90 — a throwback to the 689 votes that Leung got to become chief executive. You can find them at the party’s stall in Victoria Park when the fair opens this Saturday.
