Incoming students at Hong Kong Baptist University will now need to take a national security course in order to graduate.

Starting this year, new students at the university—including transfer students admitted to the second and third years of studies—must complete the course, called National Security Law Education, as part of their co-curricular learning program.

Per details on the university’s website, the aims of the course include introducing the “one country, two systems” framework and the national security law’s key provisions, among other learning objectives.

Students have to register for a two-hour lecture, complete assigned reading materials and obtain a pass in the quiz.

Baptist University first said in July that it would be making national security law education a graduation requirement.

Around that time, it said it would stop collecting membership fees on behalf of the union but denied that it was cutting ties with the student body.

Besides Baptist University, the Polytechnic University and Lingnan University have also announced plans to add national security law education to their curriculum, Stand News reported.
