Octopus Holdings, a.k.a. those “doods” behind the ubiquitous and perennially useful Octopus card, have released a pretty exciting peer-to-peer payment app… for Standard Chartered account-holding Android users, anyway.
The new app, titled O! ePay, allows users to top up their cards, transfer Octopus credit to their bank accounts, and conduct peer-to-peer payments.
While the app is available for both Android and iOS, iOS users will only be able to make peer-to-peer payments, as Apple only allows near field communication (NFC) enabled devices to utilise the technology for Apple Pay. This will apparently be rectified later in the year when Octopus Holdings releases an external NFC device for iOS devices, but peer-to-peer payment seems like the best feature to us anyway.
Say goodbye to covering your flaky friends (who always seem to be without cash) on group bills, and instead make them download this app to transfer the funds for their damn mojitos. You know, in a casual, totally non-miserly way. Fiscal responsibility is fun, right?
O! ePay is open to HKID holders over the age of 18, and users must register their personal details and proof of address. For more information and to download the app, visit the O! ePay website.
